Veteran Service Officers

Accredited American Legion Service Officers are specially trained to provide expert assistance, free of charge, to veterans and their families. While the majority of a service officer’s work involves an application for VA disability benefits, these compassionate professionals also provide information, referrals, and resources on education, employment and business, death benefits, and other important topics.

There are two types of Veteran Service Officers, those who are "Accredited" by the Veteran Administration (VA) and those who are not. Most Post Service Officers (including ours at Post 237) have a wealth of knowledge and experience helping veterans get connected with the assistance they need, but do not ability to function on behalf of veteran (I.e. file a claim for them).

If you need assistance filing a claim with the VA, you can either get in touch with any of the VSO's listed on the CA Legion site (big blue button above) or use the VA's "Find a VA accredited representative or VSO" tool on their site.

If you have been told your military records are lost, call the VA at (844) 531-7818.
